Tübingen, 19 April 2007. The company A3M AG received the innovation prize 2007 for the Tsunami Alarm System for mobile telephones. With this award, the Initiative Mittelstand annually honours innovative products that have been developed by medium-sized enterprises from the ICT-branch (ICT - information and communications technology). An independent jury examined more than 1200 applications and assigned awards in 33 categories altogether. More...

German Alarm System first one to warn of Tsunami
A3M sent information about earth quake near Solomon Island to mobile phones
Tuebingen/Germany, April 2, 2007. A3M AG, based in Tuebingen/Germany, sent out the first warnings of a Tsunami near Solomon Islands last Sunday. The magnitude 8 earth quake occurred at 20.40 UTC in the Western part of the Archipelago in the Southern Pacific. A3M’s first mobile phone warnings were sent out to all affected subscribers at 20.53 UTC. Within 20 minutes after the quake, which is until 21.01 UTC, all users had been informed. The Pacific Tsunami Centre at Hawaii did not announce a Tsunami Alarm for parts of the Southern Pacific Ocean until 20.55 UTC on his homepage. More...

European ICT Prize for German Innovation
A3M Tsunami Alarm System awarded with renowned IT Prize at German CeBIT

Hannover/Germany/CeBIT, March 20, 2007. German A3M AG, based in Tuebingen, has been awarded with the European ICT Prize for developing the Tsunami Alarm System for mobile phones. Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media, handed over the award at the CeBIT, the world’s largest IT trade fair, where the 20 nominees are presenting their products at the Innovation Area in Hall 5. “All the finalists of this competition are winners”, Reding announced during the award ceremony. An international jury chose the Swabian innovation out of 450 participants from 30 countries. Despite the high technology it is based on, the system is easy to operate and can be lifesaving in case of danger in coastal areas.

A new Tsunami website now shows when and where earthquakes occur and how dangerous they are. The website is connected to several hundreds of measurement stations all over the world, with which it is in constant contact.
